He studied John Muir High School, and later on went to Junior Pasadena College. But he later on went to the University of California, Los Angeles. Before entering the major league, he played American football for the Honolulu Bears. His family was also quite known because his brother Mathew won silver medal to the 200 meter dash in 1936. In 1947 he entered the Brooklyn Dodgers and was the first black player to play in the major league. He had to face many threats to his family and kids, or other racist insults. In 1955, He led his team to the World Series and won it. He retired in 1957 with a batting average of 311. One of his famous quotes were  Unfortunately he died on October 24, 1972 in Connecticut. Romare Bearden: Artist of a Kind - By Ma-Nogoy F.

http://cra7thgrade.blogspot.com/2014/02/romare-bearden-poem.html

Romare Bearden is an African- American artist. He fell in love with collages when he was 14 years old. Ever since that day, he has made many collages using paint, glue, and scraps. He is African-American but since he was so light he was treated like a white person. He disliked segregation and hoped for it to end. Here is my poem on Romare Bearden.

Romare
Determined, Kind, Creative,
Husband of Charlotte Bearden,
Who loved collaging, painting, and creating art,
Who hated discrimination, segregation, and loved to express his feelings through art,
Who feared that racism would continue and that he would not become famous,
Who made some of the best artwork in history,
Famous for his collages symbolizing the life of African Americans,
Who used colors that meshed together,
Let his imagination run wild,
Who wanted to see people express their feelings through art, the end segregation, and better treatment of blacks,
Born in North California, Died in New York,
He will always be remembered,
Bearden
